Install Fred TV and choose a source type
The Fred TV project’s public README confirms imports from an M3U file, an M3U link, or an Xtream connection. Download the current release from the project’s official release page rather than an unknown mirror. The Windows installer linked by iPTiVi is v1.9.1; Fred TV also publishes platform-specific distributions through the project page. Installation labels can change between releases, so check the provider documentation if your operating system presents a different confirmation screen.
After opening Fred TV, use the start screen or the source-management control to add a playlist. The public project documentation describes the supported source formats but does not promise one permanent menu label for every platform. If your build says Add source, Import playlist, or Add playlist, choose that equivalent action. Select M3U file when you downloaded a file, M3U link when the source gave you a URL, or Xtream when the source gave you a server, username, and password.
- M3U file: select the local file and wait for the import to finish.

Add an EPG or XMLTV guide URL
The Fred TV README documents M3U and Xtream imports, but it does not document a stable, separate XMLTV field with a guaranteed menu path. Do not assume that an XMLTV URL belongs in the M3U URL field. If your installed build shows Settings > Guide, Settings > EPG, or an EPG/XMLTV field inside the playlist editor, paste the XMLTV URL there and save it. If that field is missing, check the Fred TV project documentation for the current release before proceeding.
When a source provides both playlist and guide URLs, use the matching pair from that source. The EPG channel identifier must match the playlist’s channel identifier for listings to appear. A guide can be valid and still show no programmes when the source uses different IDs, has no current programme data, or only covers certain regions. iPTiVi’s own guide and favorites are separate from Fred TV’s local guide import.
Finish the first import
Save the source and allow Fred TV to finish loading groups and channels before testing playback. Start with one or two channels that the source provider says should be available. If the source has a large catalogue, the first refresh can take longer than later refreshes. Keep the source URL private: a playlist URL or Xtream password can grant access to the source and should not be posted in a screenshot or support request.
Use Fred TV’s own favorites and playback controls for the local player experience. Use iPTiVi when you need the account-scoped organization, available EPG browsing, or cross-device settings offered by your plan. Neither app can make an unavailable source available, repair an expired provider account, or change a source’s regional restrictions.
Troubleshooting
Playlist will not load
Check whether you selected M3U file, M3U link, or Xtream correctly. Re-copy the URL without spaces, confirm the source is reachable, and check the Fred TV release documentation if the import control has changed.
EPG is not showing
Confirm that the source supplied an XMLTV URL, that Fred TV’s current build exposes an EPG field, and that playlist IDs match XMLTV channel IDs. If the menu is different, check provider docs instead of guessing.
Channels buffer
Test another channel, check the source provider’s status, reduce other network traffic, and try the provider’s recommended player settings. Buffering can come from the source or network rather than Fred TV.
Guide time zone is wrong
Check the operating system time zone and Fred TV’s guide or regional settings. XMLTV timestamps may include an offset; if the source data is wrong, contact the source provider.
